| Pyaasa |
Pyaasa is a story of a poet's distressed mind. Guru Dutt, Waheeda Rehman, Mala Sinha starrer Pyaasa is the destination of thought. The poster shows the austerity of love. Pyaasa was not only a commercially successful movie but also obtained critics' positive reaction.
Abrar Alvi wrote the story of Pyaasa. Vijay (Guru Dutt) is a penniless poet. His brothers sent him to college. Meena (Mala Sinha) is studying in the same college. Vijay and Meena loved each other. Meena belongs to a wealthy family. After college, she gets married to a rich man Mr Ghosh (Rehman). She does not give even one chance to Vijay to prove his marital worth. Vijay does not get a job after completing college. He tried to publish his poem but could not get success. His brother expels him from the house. He wanders on the road; hungry and thirsty.
He accidentally meets a prostitute Gulaabo (Waheeda Rehman). Gulaabo starts to love him.
Unaware of everything, Vijay is hired by his own Meena's husband. Meena again attracts him. When Mr Ghosh came across reality, he expelled him from office. Depressed Vijay finds his mother dead. His depression increases and he goes for suicide. After death, Gulaabo published his poem. His poem book becomes popular. Vijay's friend finds Vijay alive. He and Vijay's brother refuse to recognise him for the profit from his book.
Vijay feels unfair everywhere in society. The story is not about a poet, rather the hypocrisy of society.
He has only one wealth which is his poetry. He sleeps on the roadside. He works as a coolie but gets a spurious coin in return of his work. When he goes to a restaurant and pays that coin in return for food. He came to know the coin is spurious. He starts to think people who pretend to have moral standards but not practise the same. Eventually, Vijay finds the destination of his thought. He becomes sick to see the hypocrisy of the world.

| Pyaasa :Guru Dutt and Waheeda |
As much as we can talk about this film, it will be less. In one scene, Gulaabo comes to publish Vijay's poem, but unfortunately, Meena sees those poems. Gulaabo requests her to publish these poems. Meena denies doing this. Instead of publishing, Meena wants to buy those poems from Gulaabo. Meena is ready to pay big bucks in exchange for the poem, but Gulaabo denies selling it. Hearing this, Meena asks her, "You are selling everything along with your body for money, but why are you not ready to sell these poems." Gulaabo replied to her, "I am selling my body, not my soul."
Overall, the scenes are memorable. Story and screenplay are excellent. The film moves slowly but does not lose grip at any moment. Guru Dutt did the direction, and he got success over it.
Cinematography is excellent, and scenes are shot at different angles. Background music is also good. The best thing is lyrics, which help to tell elaborately the hypocrisy of the world. Sahir Ludhianvi wrote the song of Pyaasa. Ye Duniya Agar Mil Bhi Jaye To, Jinhen Naaz Hai Hind Par is one of the best songs of Sahir Ludhianvi. Sahir Ludhianvi has no replacement.
Now come to the acting, Guru Dutt was an actor who conversed through eyes. Waheeda Rehman played her first leading role. Her performance is also excellent. Johny Walker, Mehmud, Mala Sinha, Rehman also performed well.
Pyaasa is not only worth watching but also worth showing. Film Students must take a look at the film in every aspect.
