Aakrosh, 1980 Movie won the national film award on that year. Smita Patil, Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah starrer Aakrosh is realistic cinema. The story is basic, and no filmmaker wants to turn this story into a film because they all know that it has happened many times, what is special about it? But you could feel Aakrosh special with the basic storyline. This is the success of makers that he conveys his message correctly to the audience. It looks like Aakrosh was created by doing a PhD. Aakrosh expose the reality of Indian society, law and order. Delay in giving justice is injustice and injustice compels a person to commit a crime even if there is no criminal tendency.
Lahnya (Om puri) is a tribe man alleged to kill his wife Naagi (Smita Patil). The trial of her murder running into District court, where Bhaskar (Nasiruddin Shah) is public defender, Dashane (Amrish puri) is a public prosecutor. This is the first case of Bhaskar he wants to win this. He repeatedly asks the truth to lahnya, but he remains silent. He went to his village, but no one tells him about the case even villager get scared to Bhaskar and ordered him to go. The film depicts about Naxalites, tribe exploitation by higher caste people.
Advocate Dashane is a government lawyer, and he too belongs to the tribe. He has a healthy relationship with much higher caste and privileged people, but behind his back someone (one of the acquaintance) called him and abused him on behalf of his class. Dashane ignores him. Since he is a government advocate and working on a good position so people jealous him due to his caste but no one says something evil on his face.
The screenplay is marvellous. Screenplay conveys to viewers that the incident is not like short-lived or timely. Society has to pay attention to this type of concern.
Govind Nihalani did his job well. He did the direction and get success.
Location and set are accurate. Cinematographer enhances the excellence of the film. Producers glorify the art of lighting in the film.
Finally, we come to the acting, Om puri had only two dialogues, but the film starts with him and ends with him. Om puri is silent on the entire movie, but he leaves a deep impression on the audience with his emotions. Naseeruddin Shah is all time a great actor, he scared in the film, and get scared us too. Genda swami of the Tiranga film (Deepak Shirke) is unrecognizable in the Aakrosh but performed well.
The movie is worth to watch. When you want to discover the truth of Society, watch this film. Aakrosh is not an entertaining film, but yes the film will hold you till the end.
